Additional useful information
Identify Roku Express HD by 3960R, then use this source-reviewed page to check its video, audio, network, power, remote, connection, reset, and exact accessory requirements before replacing parts.
Roku Express 3960R is a 1080p player, not a 4K model. Roku's setup page says model 3960 supports video up to Full HD and ships with a Roku Simple Remote, High Speed HDMI cable, USB power cable and adapter, and an optional adhesive strip. The simple remote is infrared, so the player must remain in line of sight; a compatible Roku voice remote can be added separately because Roku lists model 3960 in its voice-remote table. Connect HDMI and stable power, select the matching television input, then complete Wi-Fi and Roku account activation. Roku also supports wired networking through a third-party 10/100 Micro-USB adapter using an AX8877X or SMSC95XX chipset; unsupported Gigabit adapters will not work, and the adapter must preserve the power path. There is no 4K, HDR, local USB media, or memory-card capability. If the remote fails, check batteries and visibility before treating the player as defective. Low power, wrong input, a loose HDMI cable, or network settings should be checked before factory reset. Reset removes the linked account, installed apps, and preferences. Confirm 3960R on the case or Settings > System > About before purchasing a remote, adapter, or mounting strip.
- Power: Micro-USB power cable and wall adapter
- Bundled remote: Roku Simple Remote uses infrared and needs line of sight
- Upgrade path: Model 3960 supports compatible Roku voice remotes sold separately
- Mounting: Optional adhesive strip may secure the player near the television
- Software: 3960X is listed in Roku's updatable hardware group
- Variant caveat: 3960 is HD Express and must not inherit Express 4K+ or Streambar specifications
